The UW Voice Lab is looking for subjects to help study the effects of long-term straw phonation therapy on voice.

Participation involves four in-person sessions ranging from 10 to 45 minutes each at week 0 (training), week 2, week 4, and week 5. You will also be asked to perform a simple straw phonation task for 20 minutes per day for 6 days per week at home. This study includes completing a novel vocal exercise technique, and reimbursement of $150. Research for this study takes place at home, however the four in-person sessions take place in the Medical Sciences Center. All data collected is low-risk and confidential. To qualify for this study, you must:

    • Be able to say “aaah” for up to 10 seconds
    • Have no voice disorders or lung disorders
    • Be a non-smoker

I hope you are as excited as I am about our move to the digital age.  It is our vision for this website to become your ‘go-to” place for UWRA information and the latest details about its activities and programs.

The automation of the application and renewal process, the ability to pay online and the ability to access information from your mobile device are among the software’s features.  Our design goal was to keep it simple, easy to use while striking a balance between emerging technologies and maintaining existing methods.   I encourage you to become familiar with the site and its features.  Visit it often.

As with the onset of spring, it is time to look forward to a new UWRA.   Join me and embrace the changes!
